New Horizons
Reading is my lifeline. As long as I can remember, I've been reading. My parents tell me I taught myself. Even before then, my parents read to me.
As a child, I moved around a lot. My books were like friends that no one could ever take away from me, while my real friends would only last for a year or two. As an adult, when something in my life goes wrong, I nearly always turn to a book.
Books have the power to take me out of my own life, and let me borrow someone else's - just for a bit. I can read a story that allows me to make myself happy, or remind me that someone else's life is harder than my own. Sometimes, I read to forget my world even exists.
My reading has inspired me to become smarter, both in knowledge and in ability to learn. My reading has led me through college, to a career as a teacher and an aspiring career as a writer.
